Philadelphia FEVAH!!!

Alas....City Pride Again

After 25 long years, the drought has come to an end. The Phillies have done what the Eagles, the Flyers, the Sixers, Smarty Jones and the '83 and '93 Phillies could not do...WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP. What I love about being a Philly fan is that the fans get grief for being hard on our team and snowballing Santa, but we are ferouciously loyal to our teams IF they play their hearts out. I am completely surprised it was the Philies to end the drought. I was for sure it would be the Eagles of Flyers. Baseball is the third sport in the city even though it is the oldest team in Philly.

What I've loved apart from the championship is to listen and watch the city. Yeah...I know there have been some fights and fires, but one thing is for sure. This has unified a cold Northeastern city. People were randomly hugging each other and high fiving. Philly is happy and united. Seeing thousands of people out and about in the streets celebrating in cold weather was awesome!

This goes deeper than a championship in a sport. This has to do with city spirit. We have been bullied and hated on by nearly all sports media as bad fans. Our true colors are now seen. Also, it is cool to see families sharing this moment. I heard of parent's keeping their kids out of class and keeping them up late to share the specialness of this event with them. They knew their kids may not see it again for a long time. There is a unity that comes about when this happens that is very sweet. It seems only Philly fans understand Philly fans. Guess I see this as sweet on many levels.

I am eating crow. I have not been a Charlie Manuel fan. To me he has been a dope. He proved me wrong. I'm sorry Uncle Charlie for failing you. I'm excited to see how the Fightin's do next year

Quote of the Day

"I went to church and a business broke out."

Another interesting quote to think about the church becoming a business in it's mentality.

Predictions of the (Almost) Inevitable Obama-ship

Been already thinking ahead to the ramifications of Obamessiah being the president. I have predictions based on him having a full democratic congress and senate. This isn't fearmongering. I don't believe the sky is falling. Obama can't do anything that God won't LET him do.
  • One of the first big ones will be the passing of the Fairness Doctrine which is their attempt at shutting up Rush Limbaugh and other conservative talk show hosts. They hope to put them out of business (good luck with that)
  • Appointment of 2 of the most liberal Supreme Court judges we have seen. Darth Bader Ginsburg and Grandpa Stevens will step down.
  • Penalizing of the rich under the pretense of "sharing the wealth." The result will be the rich leaving America to live in other countries. This is going to lead to a lack of funds for an oversized government. As a result, the middle class will get taxed harder.
  • Government will continue to inflate as they look for more ways to get their fingers on more of our lives.
  • With the financial district tightening up and loans not being as readily available, more and more students won't be able to go to college. Within the first four years (and hopefully last) of Obama, the idea of socializing college will at least be brought up. Free education for all at the expense of the taxpayer.
  • There will be at least one vote on socialized health care. It won't pass.
  • There will be a vote on gay marriage. It will pass.
  • The church will continue to become more and more liberal. I don't believe there will be any clampdown on any religious rights other than the typical "hate mongering" charges we always get since the time of Ancient Rome.
  • The GOP will continue to split into moderate and conservative. The conservatives will become louder and prouder. Palin will be their candidate of choice in 2012 if she decides to run.
  • My life, other than the government starting to try and run it more, will be unchanged. I will be as loud, opinionated and anti-state and church affiliation. Keep the government out of the church.

Calvin vs Modern Worship/Emergent Church...or so it seems

My bro gave me this quote as I was on my tirade against the direction of the modern theater and motivational centers known as a lot of modern churches. Gone is discipleship. Gone is God as a just and angry Father. What's important is fluff and feeling good. Calvin said this:
Mingled vanity and pride appear in this, that when miserable men do seek after God, instead of ascending higher than themselves as they ought to do, they measure him by their own carnal stupidity, and neglecting solid inquiry, fly off to indulge their curiosity in vain speculation. Hence, they do not conceive of him in the character in which he is manifested, but imagine him to be whatever their own rashness has devised. This abyss standing open, they cannot move one footstep without rushing headlong to destruction. With such an idea of God, nothing which they may attempt to offer in the way of worship or obedience can have any value in his sight, because it is not him they worship, but, instead of him, the dream and figment of their own heart.

More Election Insight From Dan Reagan

I don't consider myself an Obama basher. He is a man like me. Nothing special there. I am trying to play peacemaker between Obama and McCain supporters at work. I am fiercely loyal to conservatism, but we have lived through 8 years of Clinton (travesty), 4 years of Carter (BIGGER travesty) and a civil war. I don't consider Obama powerful enough to be able to destroy our nation...he just may hurt the cause of our colonial roots. Morality will run amuck again. A person, even at Liberty U is free to support Obama, no matter how ridiculous their logic may be. The reality is- McCain or Obama- God put them there just like he did Lincoln, Hitler, Washington, Reagan, King Saul...all of them. He is the KING of kings.
Now...a few thoughts:
-The "don't bash Obama" brigades are out. My question? Where were you when Bush was being railed on? Is it okay for Bush, but not okay for Obama? Reminds me of a saying: " You can dish it out, but you can't take it." It all comes back around.
-Conservatives. I again remind you and ask you: If Obama is elected, will we stress the need for prayer for him as hard as we did George W?
-Don't vote for race. Race determines nothing. It doesn't make budget crisis go away. It doesn't stop war. It doesn't make terrorists flee. It doesn't raise the minimum wage. POLICIES are what you vote for. If you vote for race, you are voting for a shell. Remember King Saul? "He had a son whose name was Saul, a choice and handsome man, and there was not a more handsome person than he among the sons of Israel; from his shoulders and up he was taller than any of the people." 1 Samuel 9:2 AND "Man looks at the outside, but God looks at the heart." 1 Samuel 16:7
-Will the GOP learn there lesson? You had power for so long and did nothing with it. Maybe it needs to be removed from you so you get so frustrated, you actually do something next time.
